Getting ready for pregnancy

Starting a family can be a challenging journey for some individuals. For those that are overweight, falling pregnant may be more difficult. Losing weight and reducing your BMI towards the healthier BMI range prior to becoming pregnant (for both the prospective father and mother) can help increase the chances of pregnancy, successful in vitro fertilisation and avoid complications of pregnancy associated with maternal obesity.

How can OPTIFAST VLCD help me?
It is becoming more evident that achieving a healthy weight before pregnancy is important, and not just for the prospective mother. If you or your partner are overweight, the OPTIFAST Program can help you achieve fast effective weight loss, which may help improve your chances of pregnancy.
Can I continue OPTIFAST VLCD while pregnant?
OPTIFAST VLCD is not designed to meet the increased requirements of pregnancy, therefore we recommend you stop the OPTIFAST Program 6 weeks prior to conception or in vitro fertilisation. Please consider appropriate methods of contraception while following the OPTIFAST Program.
How soon after delivering my baby can I use OPTIFAST Program?
The Intensive Level of the OPTIFAST Program should not be used while breastfeeding. If you are currently breastfeeding, you may be able to start introducing one OPTIFAST VLCD product into your diet, but should speak to your healthcare professional beforehand, who may recommend additional nutritional supplementation. If you are not breastfeeding, speak to your healthcare professional about when it may be appropriate for you to return to the OPTIFAST Program. Your healthcare professional may wish to arrange for you to have a blood test before commencing the program to review your nutritional status.
Please speak to your healthcare professional before recommencing the OPTIFAST Program.
